Resetting Your Password

NeedBridge is an email-powered need-matching platform that connects people in need with volunteers through nonprofit organizations. If you have forgotten your password or need to change it for security reasons, NeedBridge provides a straightforward password reset process. This article walks through each step.

Step 1: Go to the Login Page

Navigate to the NeedBridge login page in your browser. This is the same page you normally use to sign in.

Step 2: Click "Forgot Password"

Below the email and password fields, look for a "Forgot Password" or "Reset Password" link. Click it to begin the reset process.

Step 3: Enter Your Email Address

On the password reset page, enter the email address associated with your NeedBridge account. This must be the same email you used when you registered or were invited.

Click the submit button. You will see a confirmation message indicating that a reset email has been sent.

A Note on Security

For security reasons, the confirmation message appears regardless of whether the email address is in the system. This prevents someone from using the reset form to discover which email addresses have NeedBridge accounts.

Step 4: Check for the Reset Email

Open your email inbox and look for a message from NeedBridge with the subject line related to password reset.

If You Do Not See It

  • Check your spam or junk folder. Password reset emails can be caught by spam filters.
  • Wait a few minutes. Email delivery is usually fast, but occasional delays can occur.
  • Verify the email address. Make sure you entered the correct address -- the one you registered with.
  • Try again. If the email does not arrive after several minutes, return to the login page and request another reset.

Step 5: Click the Reset Link

The reset email contains a link that takes you to a page where you can set a new password. Click the link to proceed.

Link Security

The reset link is unique to your request and cannot be reused by anyone else. It is a one-time-use link tied to your account.

Step 6: Set Your New Password

On the reset page, enter your new password. Choose a strong password that:

  • Is at least 8 characters long (or whatever minimum the form requires)
  • Is not the same as your previous password
  • Is not a password you use for other websites or services

Confirm the new password by entering it a second time, then submit.

Step 7: Log In

After successfully resetting your password, you will be directed to the login page (or logged in automatically). Use your email and new password to sign in.

Link Expiration

Password reset links are time-limited for security. If you do not use the link within the allowed time window, it will expire and you will see a message indicating that the link is no longer valid.

What to Do if the Link Expired

  1. Return to the login page.
  2. Click "Forgot Password" again.
  3. Enter your email address to receive a new reset link.
  4. Use the new link promptly.

The expiration window is intentionally short to protect your account. If someone else intercepted the email, the link would not be usable after it expires.

Requesting a New Link

You can request a new password reset link at any time by repeating the process from Step 2. Each new request generates a fresh link and invalidates any previous ones.

There is no limit to how many times you can request a reset, but if you find yourself unable to complete the process, see Login and Account Issues for additional help.

Tips

  • Save your new password in a password manager so you do not need to reset again.
  • Do not share your password with anyone, including colleagues. If someone needs NeedBridge access, an admin can invite them.
  • Reset promptly if you suspect someone else may know your password.
