Create a Need

What this page is for

Post a clear request so volunteers understand exactly how to help.

Steps

  1. Add a short, specific title (what, for whom, where)
  2. Choose the Area and Contact Person
  3. Set how many items are needed and the due date
  4. Pick an urgency level (Low, Medium, High, Critical)
  5. Write a clear description and add any helpful links
  6. Add an image (upload, stock photo, or paste a URL)
  7. Publish

Helpful links (time saver)

  • Paste a product link from Amazon or Walmart and we’ll try to auto‑fill the image for you
  • You can still upload your own image or pick a stock photo

Image options

  • Upload a photo
  • Select a stock photo
  • Paste an image URL

Tip: Keep images respectful and general. Share sensitive details privately with volunteers after they claim.

Good titles and descriptions

  • Lead with the outcome: “Complete groceries to…”, “Provide size 6 diapers…”
  • Include general location (neighborhood, not exact address)
  • List requirements: vehicle, lifting, language, etc.

After publishing

  • Respond quickly to claims
  • Update status to Claimed/In Progress
  • Mark Completed when complete, and consider adding a short story

Troubleshooting

  • Can’t publish? Check required fields (title, area, contact, items)
  • Image didn’t auto‑fill? Upload a photo or paste a direct image URL
  • No case worker options? Select an Area or contact your admin

Need statuses (when to use each)

  • Open: Posted and visible to volunteers
  • Pending Claim: Someone clicked “I can help” and is being verified
  • Claimed: A volunteer is assigned and coordinating
  • In Progress: Scheduled or underway
  • Completed: Completed — remember to thank and consider adding a story
  • Expired: Past due; no longer accepting claims
  • Canceled: No longer needed
  • Denied: Not approved for publication

Manage needs (Admin → Needs)

  • Filter by Area, Category, Status, and Tags
  • Edit a need or change status as work progresses
  • Duplicate a past need to save time

Privacy & safety

  • Do not include exact addresses or personally identifying details
  • Keep images general; share specifics after a claim via email
  • Remove or edit details if circumstances change
