Impact Measurement Report

NeedBridge is an email-powered need-matching platform that connects people in need with volunteers through nonprofit organizations. The Impact Measurement report summarizes the tangible results of your organization's work -- needs fulfilled, people served, volunteer contributions, and stories of impact. This report is designed to help you communicate your organization's value to stakeholders, donors, board members, and the broader community.

What This Report Shows

The Impact Measurement report answers questions like:

  • How many needs has our organization fulfilled?
  • How many individuals and families have we served?
  • What have our volunteers contributed?
  • What success stories can we share with supporters?

Total Needs Fulfilled

The headline metric in this report is the total number of needs that were marked as completed during the selected time period. This number represents real instances where a person in your community received help through your organization's work.

You can break this number down by:

  • Category -- See how many food, housing, transportation, clothing, and other needs were fulfilled.
  • Area -- See fulfillment totals by geographic service area.
  • Time period -- View fulfillment by month or quarter to show progress over time.

People Served

This section tracks the number of unique individuals and families who had at least one need fulfilled during the period. This is distinct from total needs fulfilled because one person may have multiple needs.

Why This Matters

Donors and funders often want to know how many people benefited from their support. The people-served metric gives a clear, defensible answer to that question.

Households and Individuals

Where data is available, the report distinguishes between individuals served directly and the households they belong to. A single fulfilled need for a family may benefit multiple people.

Volunteer Contributions

This section measures what your volunteer community has contributed:

Volunteer Participation

The number of unique volunteers who claimed and helped fulfill at least one need during the period. This shows the breadth of community involvement.

Repeat Engagement

How many volunteers contributed more than once. A high repeat rate indicates strong volunteer satisfaction and commitment.

Contributions by Category

Which types of needs are volunteers most actively supporting? This can help you understand where your volunteer base is strongest and where gaps exist.

Contributions by Area

Which geographic areas are receiving the most volunteer support? Cross-reference this with need volume to identify areas that may be underserved.

Success Stories

NeedBridge allows case workers to collect brief success stories when needs are completed. The Impact Measurement report aggregates these stories and makes them available for use in communications.

What Stories Include

Success stories typically describe the situation, the help provided, and the outcome. They do not include identifying details about clients.

Using Stories Effectively

  • Include one or two stories in donor communications or annual reports to put a human face on the numbers.
  • Share stories (with appropriate privacy considerations) in newsletters or social media to inspire continued support.
  • Use stories in grant applications to illustrate the real-world impact of funded programs.

Encouraging Story Collection

If your stories section is sparse, encourage case workers to take a moment when closing a need to note what happened. Even a sentence or two adds value. The story field is optional but becomes one of your most powerful communication tools when used consistently.

Communicating Impact to Stakeholders

The Impact Measurement report is built for sharing. Here are common use cases:

Board Reports

Export the summary metrics and include them in your board packet. Board members want to see high-level numbers: needs fulfilled, people served, volunteer participation.

Donor Communications

Annual appeals and thank-you letters are more effective when they include concrete impact data. Use the report's metrics alongside one or two success stories.

Grant Reporting

Many grants require quantitative outcomes reporting. The Impact Measurement report provides the numbers you need, and the export feature lets you pull them into whatever format your funder requires.

Community Updates

Share your impact publicly through newsletters, social media, or your organization's website. Transparency about results builds trust and attracts new volunteers and supporters.

Internal Motivation

Share impact data with your own team. Case workers and coordinators benefit from seeing the aggregate effect of their daily work. It can be easy to lose sight of the bigger picture when you are focused on individual cases.

Filtering and Exporting

Apply date range, area, and category filters to focus the report on specific segments. Use the export feature to generate CSV files for use in presentations, grant reports, or custom analyses.
