Family Seeking Pressure Canner

❤️ A Heartfelt Family Need – Teaching Life Skills Through Food Preservation A local therapeutic foster family is reaching out with a heartfelt need during a particularly full and challenging season of life. This family of 9 — including 7 incredible children — is deeply committed to creating a stable, loving home while also equipping their children with meaningful life skills. However, their daily routine is currently filled with numerous responsibilities and appointments, including: • Ongoing trauma therapy (including a recent inpatient mental health stay for one child) • A 1-year-old attending weekly speech and occupational therapy • Additional specialty medical appointments for another child • Parents managing their own health challenges, including high blood pressure and severe B12 deficiency Despite these challenges, the family continues to be proactive in building a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. 🍽️ Their Goal: They are hoping to begin pressure canning (for meat — not water bath canning) as a way to: • Stretch their SNAP benefits by purchasing bulk meat • Prepare meals ahead for busy weekdays • Reduce reliance on convenience foods • Provide healthier, home-prepared meals Even more importantly, they hope to use this as an opportunity to teach their teen children valuable life skills such as food preservation, budgeting, and self-sufficiency. This family has already taken meaningful steps toward this goal by: • Participating in monthly cooking classes • Utilizing free nutritional coaching through Penn State Extension • Exploring local resources, including lending libraries, in hopes of borrowing equipment Unfortunately, they have been unable to locate any programs offering pressure canning equipment for lending. 💛 Current Need: The family is currently seeking: • A pressure canner (safe for meat canning) • Canning jars (pint or quart) and basic supplies Gently used items would be incredibly appreciated. This request is about more than just food — it’s about creating structure, building independence, and making daily life more manageable for a large family navigating complex needs. If anyone has equipment to donate, lend, or even guidance to share, it would make a meaningful difference for this family. ❤️ Thank you for supporting families in our community — it truly takes a village. Donation in any amount is greatly appreciated. Receipts for goods can be sent upon request. Monetary Donations can be sent via friends and family at the PayPal link below.
